The Best of 2016

the-best-of2016

Happy 2017! How are you doin’!!! I can’t tell you how excited I am for 2017. The past year has been a whirlwind of me trying to create a system for the blog. The best thing about 2016 was the gains and progress I have made on my blog. For those who don’t understand how meaningful a blog is, let me break it down for you. My blog is the ultimate creative outlet. It’s not about making money. It’s about opening new doors, creating new connections, and watching myself blossom in all areas of my life. There were some challenges in relation to the blog, but in the end there were more wins than losses. So in honor of a new year and of new things to come, I wanted to take some time to reflect on the greatness that was 2016.  From awesome fashion and learning how to work my new lumix camera to create stunning images, 2016 has been about learning. I anticipate 2017 will be full of learning opportunities as well, but I’ll be able to really use some of the skills that I worked so hard to perfect during 2016. So this year expect a new look, more awesome fashion, and more personal posts. In the meantime, please check out the blog posts that caused a stir in 2016.

BEST OF BEAUTY

I hope you enjoy reflecting on my 2016 best blog posts with me. You know after everything is said and done, I really enjoy the entire process of blogging. And I truly value the relationships, feedback, and opportunities that blogging brings into my life. I’m ready for you 2017! Happy New Year everyone! December’s theme was festive, snowy, minimalist, giving, celebrations (that’s a mouthful).  All the perfect adjectives to describe the month of December. Below I’ve reviewed my favorite products from the Must Have Box! [To see more reviews from this box, check out my Vlog on Youtube!]

  1. ODEME Catchall + Ring Dish

sustainable_lifestyle_baublebar.png

This matching porcelain catchall and ring dish set are the key to organizing your life. I am a fan of just throwing my keys anywhere I can find a free space. But, now I’ll be sure to use this catchall instead. Add a small vase with your favorite flowers to elevate the style of your room. And the ring holder is perfect for your night stand where you can toss your watch or earrings! [ODEME has a great collection of shiny chrome and gold plated beauty accessories] Value: $67

  1. BaubleBar Snowfall Pendant

Popsugar teamed up with Bauble Bar to bring us this fabulous statement necklace pendant. This rotating pendant is the perfect minimalist look! Value: $28

  1. Mane Message Date Night Bobby Pins

I love the shimmery sparkle on these festive bobby pins! I often wear my hair in a twist out so keeping my ringlets tamed can be a challenge. I love how I won’t have to hide my pins and tucks with these stylish hair accessories. Value: $10

  1. Winky Lux Lip Pill in Bunny

I don’t think it’s possible to have too many great lipsticks. And this juicy cranberry shade keeps those puckers looking holiday ready. I adore the pill capsule shape and the ultra shiny casing makes searching for it in my makeup bag super simple! And this brand is Made in the U.S.A and is paraben free! You can find the Winky Lux brand in Forever 21 stores! Here are some of my favorite lip colors from the brandValue: $14

  1. Sisters’ Gourmet Bakers Dozen Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

What’s better than fresh baked chocolate chip cookies? Five step fresh baked chocolate chip cookies! Everything is perfectly portioned in this Sisters Gourmet cookie mix. All I had to do was add butter and egg! Not only were they easy to make but they came out super yummy too! Crunchy corners and a chewy center. Drooool! I cooked these Christmas morning (sorry santa) and stored them in a cute snowflake tin to bring to a family gathering later that day!  Value: $6.99

  1. DESSANGE PROFESSIONAL HAIR LUXURY

sustainable_lifestyle_winkydessange

It’s been a while since I’ve tried a serum on my hair. I took this product for a whirl after a fresh wash. I did my usual twist out with a touch of serum with each twist.

I couldn’t fit all my reviews on one blog post so I decided to do a video as well! Check out my Vlog on the December 2016 MustHave box. I review the Dessange Top Coat Serum, the Mane Message bobby pins, and the Winky Lux lip color in Bunny!

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. I have really enjoyed receiving these boxes and sharing them with the world. Please leave me a comment below and let me know what you think. Or if you have any questions about any of the products, I am happy to answer!

Changes Are Coming

you-are

Yes. You. Are. There are some really amazing changes coming to the blog. It’s getting  facelift and in the mean time, I’m going to take a small break from writing. But don’t worry more amazing sustainable fashion is to come. Think of this like how when your favorite show ( The Walking Dead, Wendy Williams, Modern Family) season comes to an end and you are faced with re-runs until it’s return. That’s kind of how things are going to work here. I will keep you posted on all of the new changes to come and I’m going to reminisce on some of my favorite blog posts. As most of you may know by now, I am pregnant… I kid I kid. I am not pregnant! I REPEAT I am not pregnant! I just wanted to see if you were awake out there. 🙂 Sometimes I think that I am truly writing to myself on this blog. But I really desire to connect with you guys! My blog is making it’s transition to a sustainable fashion blog and I might find ways to incorporate some beauty and fitness in too! 😉 I really want to hone in on sustainable fashion because I love to see how companies are creating new and innovative ways to protect our environment and to help people. It is a worthy cause and its a way to incorporate something I love (STYLE) with a philanthropic cause.

So you! Yes you! Reading this post, please share this with a friend and follow my blog because MYBROWNSPARKLEZ.COM will be the premiere destination on learning how to sustain(ify) your heart and your wardrobe. Yes I said sustainify and I don’t care if it’s not a real word.  So click subscribe at the bottom of the screen! Also, take time to check me out on my other social media channels. You can find me on Instagram via @mybrownsparklez and on Twitter via @Mz_keenah. I L-O-V-E engaging with you guys and I look forward to unveiling the new blog and getting your feedback! In the meantime, what would you like to know more about sustainable fashion? Drop me your questions in the comments sections below and I promise I will get back to you and I may even dedicate a blog post to your question!

Thank you so much for your support and kindness!

Metallic Top Won’t Stop

1234567810a

As you can probably tell by now, I am absolutely loving this metallic crop top that I scored at H&M. It’s only $4.99 and its a simple closet piece that can spice up any outfit. I really like pairing it with fun highwaist skirts. The black skirt I’ve had for years and I orignally bought it at Forever 21 (one of the few pieces that I still have from that store). My fishbone stockings are from Swedish stockings an awesome sustainable stockings line that really makes transitioning my skirts into fall and winter super br(easy)! Use my code: Mybrownsparklez for 15% off your order at Swedish Stockings! And of course my favorite lace up pumps from Chinese Laundry. Gotta love em!

Sustainable Stockings with A-Line Skirt

green_fashion_2green_fashion_3green_fashion_overlapgreen_fashion_1

I remember during the summer I was wearing A-line skirts almost everyday. Now that the cooler weather has finally rolled into Texas (yes-finally!) I’m still wearing them. We are having a much warmer winter this year so it hasn’t really felt like the holidays unfortunately. Hopefully though we continue to get more cooler weather. My Swedish Stockings are great for wearing under my favorite skirts, dresses, and shorts. Swedish stockings are a sustainable stocking brand that uses recycled materials. They are also a zero-waste company aiming to leave no-trace of toxic waste behind during their production process. You should really check out this brand. Love this cozy sweater from Halogen, similar style here. And during the summer I scooped this faux suede a-line skirt from jolt. They have similar styles here. And I’m still rocking my favorite lace up pumps from Chinese Laundry. They go with everything!

Basic White Button Down

acdhill-hip-pophillkendrastanding-on-table-4on-park-bench

That moment you discover that your local park is the best place to take photos. I wore this look to work the other day (minus the hat and vest) and I totally slayed it. There’s nothing basic about this outfit. But this basic white button down will take you places. Its’s a closet essential that can carry you from work, a day running errands, or a night out on the town! This style sold out really fast!  It’s a truly versatile closet piece that every woman needs in er wardrobe. If not two!

Shine in Metallics

There’s a whole lot of shine going on with this outfit. From the metallic crop top to the metallic embroidery on the tutu skirt and the inner lining of my faux fur vest. It’s safe to say I’ve found my NYE outfit. I’m not a fan of sequins because they are way too gaudy and cheap looking( ehemmm). I can only take it in small doses LOL. But this metallic is EVERTHINGGG!
